Just eight runners remain in contention for Saturday’s Group 3 Birthday Card Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse; offering punters exceptional value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
While yet to find peak condition over two starts this time in, Mossfun ($3.50) has opened as and maintained status as outright favourite in 2015 Birthday Card Stakes betting markets ahead of clear market mover Brook Road and Shamalia, who currently share the second line at a quote of $4.20 each with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.
Will Mossfun return to the winner’s circle in the 2015 Birthday Card Stakes, or will one of her talented rivals find the line in the clear?
Fine Bubbles ($7)
Fine Bubbles could only manage eighth in the talent-rich Group 3 Wenona Girl Handicap (1200m) first-up two weeks ago but is sure to take valuable form and condition from the run and offers punters great value for money in Birthday Card Stakes betting markets at current $7 odds as a result. Posting several commendable results over the Spring Carnival, the Casino Prince mare won the Group 3 Tibbie Stakes (1400m) and returned to the paddock after placing a credible fifth in the Group 3 Golden Pendant (1400m) and second to Hera in the Bradford Soundscreen Handicap (1350m). Allocated the ideal barrier 4, Fine Bubbles has been confirmed to be partnered by veteran jockey Jim Cassidy in the Birthday Card Stakes.
Three-year-old Ygritte is positioned particularly well in barrier 2 this weekend, will be partnered by Brenton Avdulla and will carry just 55.5kgs, and is therefore more than worth consideration for a bet at $8.50 odds. A standout performer over her maiden campaign, highlighted by second place finishes in each of the Group 3 Widden Stakes (1100m), Group 3 Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes (1200m) and Group 3 Royal Randwick Stakes (1200m), the Snitzel filly placed sixth in the Listed Fireball Stakes (1100m) first-up a fortnight ago and will also take valuable condition from the run.
Brook Road ($4.20)
While allocated a wide draw, Brook Road has been confirmed to be partnered by leading jockey James McDonald and is a great chance of delivering on generous odds this weekend. A standout over late spring and summer, the God’s Own mare placed a close second in the Group 3 The Nivison (1200m) before breaking through for a maiden black type win when taking out the Listed Travel Associates Classic (1200m) on November 29th. Disappointing when beating just two runners home in the Wenona Girl Quality first-up, trainer Kris Lees is confident the four-year-old is in the right form for a return to the winner’s circle on Saturday.
